Former Ohio State Linebacker Returns to Staff as Strength and Conditioning Coach
Anthony Schlegel, a former Ohio State linebacker, is back on the Buckeyes' strength and conditioning staff.
Schlegel, who played for the Buckeyes from 2003-05, previously served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2011-15. He left the Buckeyes in 2015 to focus on his football equipment company, The Difference USA, which sells the portable hand placement/striking machine he invented during his first tenure at Ohio State. This machine is now used by football teams across the country.
In 2021, Schlegel became the Jacksonville Jaguars' head strength and conditioning coach under Urban Meyer. He returned to Ohio State on an interim basis in 2024, temporarily replacing a strength and conditioning coach who was away due to surgery. Now, he is rejoining the Buckeyes full-time.
Ohio State had a vacancy on its strength and conditioning staff after the departure of associate director AT Turner, who left to become Brian Hartline's head strength and conditioning coach at USF. Schlegel joins a team of former Ohio State players on the Buckeyes' staff, including linebackers coach James Laurinaitis, co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach Tim Walton, assistant wide receivers coach Devin Jordan, special teams quality control coach Nate Ebner, and director of player development C.J. Barnett.
But here's where it gets interesting... What do you think about Schlegel's return to the Buckeyes' staff? Do you think it's a good move for the team, or do you have a different perspective? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
